time

I don't know why, but I am having a hard time reading the bible. I have trouble trying to set aside time and read it. With a 4 month old and a new job it just seems like time is scarce as it is. The time that I do have I mostly fill with internet time, itunes, t.v. , and sleep. Seeing how time is valuable to me now, it shows what I consider valuable by what I fill my time with. I mean even now you are reading my blog...which I am taking time out to write instead of reading my Bible.

I mean recently I have tried to start listening to more podcasts, to try to fill my time with something spiritual. Even though the podcasts are good and give insights, it does not compare to actually sitting down and reading God's word. I mean you can do something like that with the best intentions, but if it takes place of God, I believe that it is like becoming an idol.

One podcast that I am listening to, has started to help me realize how great God and His word is. If you have a chance, I recommend listening to Andy Stanley's message series "Text". In it he encourages believers to read God's word. He shows how amazing it really it is. 66 books with so many authors, and yet it weaves the same truth through out each one. The story about redemption. Starting from Genesis to Revelation.

He shows the dangers of not reading the Bible, and how some people listen to pastors and other people, and they base their beliefs off of others viewpoints, instead of opening the word and finding out what the Bible has to say about certain things.

He gave this illustration about how the Bible is viewed in other countries. There are some countries where they will not let you enter if you even have a Bible with you. Some have been killed, imprisoned, and beaten for trying to have the Bible. Think about it...it is against the law to have a Bible. Some go and put their lives on the line just to smuggle even one page of this book, so they can have it to read. Some are so poor they can not afford to have a copy.

And here I am in America, with freedom to worship as I please...and 5 bibles on my table collecting dust as I write this. I am not facing death, imprisonment, or even punishment for having them, but does it change my view of how great God's Word is?

God may I crave your Word. May it be sweet as honey to my lips. May I see how blessed I am to even have a copy of your Word. May I meditate on your statues and write them on the table of my heart. Speak to me through your Holy Word. May I not read your Word because I "have" to, but because I "want" to.

A great worship song. An old classic with a new twist.
