crazy love

This is a book that I have currently read, and I encourage all to read. It has changed the way I think and look at life. It was a very challenging and encouraging book...and the quickest book I have ever read.

If you want a good book to read...get this book! It was well worth the time. And try out some Francis Chan on podcast as well.

May you know that God loves you...and may that resonate in the core of your being...He is crazy about you...may that make you crazy about Him.

Check out the book's website on the side of this blog for more info on the book.

power of God

1) After the Philistines captured the Ark of God, they took it from the battleground at Ebenezer to the town of Ashdod. 2) They carried the Ark of God into the temple of Dagon and placed it beside an idol of Dagon. 3) But when the citizens of Ashdod went to see it the next morning, Dagon had fallen with his face to the ground in front of the Ark of the Lord! So they took Dagon and put him in his place again. 4) But the next morning the same thing happened—Dagon had fallen face down before the Ark of the Lord again. This time his head and hands had broken off and were lying in the doorway. Only the trunk of his body was left intact. 5) That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor anyone who enters the temple of Dagon in Ashdod will step on its threshold. -------1 Samuel 5:1-5 NLT

-------------------
I read this passage the other day and then I reread it slower. This passage shows the power of God! It blew me away. The Israelites had recently lost a battle to the Philistines, and the Philistines stole the Ark of God.

Then when they took the Ark of God back to their camp, all broke loose. They decided to put the Ark of God, where else but where one of their many gods resided. They put the Ark in the room and left it there that night.

Then the next morning they come in and the god statue is on his face before the Ark! Talk about odd. They might have thought it was just an accident and put their god statue back in its place.

Though the next morning it happens again! And this time the statue is face down in front of the Ark of God again! This time the head is knocked off and even the hands were broken off the statue. Showing who the true God is!

This God is so powerful, no god can stand up against Him! He destroys these little "g" ....gods. He even goes so far as to cause them (the little gods) to worship the true God!

I even read that this god, Dagan, was viewed as the "god of rain and of the bountiful harvest". Maybe our God wanted to remind us (and the Philistines) who truly sends the rain and who provides the bountiful harvest in our lives! May we never forget His greatness!

How many days left?

As beautifully illustrated on this hairy redneck's back(ah what you can do with a little imagination, duct tape, too much free time, and maybe a few drinks as well), we are down to 3 days till we leave for Myrtle Beach! I can't wait...I hope it lasts long too. We leave on Saturday and get back on Wed. afternoon, and chill out the rest of the week at home.

And also during that week, Billy and Dave will be going to Honduras (along with others from Stevens Creek). I am excited to see what is going to happen, and can't wait to hear the stories. As Billy posted on his blog, he wants God to blow their minds during this time. I believe these people are going to come back with a fire in the heart and a new passion in their life. They are going to come back and wake us up. God is up to something BIG!

Please pray for Billy, Dave, Joseph and all the others going on this mission trip.

grace

Grace. For some reason it seems this is what God has been trying to teach me through this time. And it seems the more that I try to learn, the more I am blown away of how much I don't really know about it.

For those of you who don't know, my wife had a miscarriage and lost our 13 week old little boy. It hit me hard, I shed a good bit of tears. And for some weird reason the word 'grace' and 'mercy' kept coming up.

Even though I don't think I will ever really understand it on this side of heaven, it was a true picture of God's grace and mercy. For we may have never really known if there may have been something drastically wrong with our child, something that maybe we couldn't handle...and God in His infinite wisdom allowed our baby to go home to heaven. Free from the pain of this world.

There is so much that I can say and it might actually end up being too much. All I can say is never stop being "amazed" by grace or mercy. For it is the very fiber of our Christian being.

We named him Aden (abudant grace) Nathanael (gift from the Lord) Kerr.

thank you

First all let me start by saying 'thank you'. Thank you to all the prayers, the cards, the encouraging words, gifts, the good food, the hugs, the phone calls and also those who just listened and were just there with us at this time. I can never truly express, how deeply we appreciated each and every one. May God bless you and your families for being with us through this difficult time that we faced.

Da..Da..

8:45p.m. - I make a profound discovery while giving my daughter her bath. She looks up and says, "Da..Da..." So I look in amazement and say "Shaela", she looks up and I point to myself and say "Da...Da ?"

She repeats and I call Laura to witness this glorious event (and maybe to also rub it in)

8:46p.m. - After a few run throughs we come to find out she also calls mommy this and even the cats this as well...Laura gloats.

Today was not a good day for "Da...Da..." Maybe tomorrow.

father's day

Well this year actually marks my very first Father's Day. Only been married a year, with a daughter at 8 months old and one on the way.

I also got my first gift. I was given Spiderman 3 on DVD, some reese's peanut butter cups, some mints, and a few small other things as well.

I tell you it doesn't get any better than a movie and peanut butter.

I also like to take time to tell my Dad thanks. He taught me the importance of hard work. He has been there for me in some tough situations. He has shown me how to be a man who loves the Lord. He has been a great Father. I love you and I hope that I pass on what you have taught me. Happy Father's Day.

Modern day Good Samaritan?

I didn't know how many of you had seen this video yet. I saw it this morning on the "Today Show".

It was truly shocking to watch as this old man got hit by a car and no one helped him.

This story reminded me of the story in the bible. Except there was no good Samaritan in this story.

There were people walking on the side that kept on walking. There were those that stopped enough to look and then kept on walking. Some even driving around the man. No one even called 911. Luckily a cop who was driving to another stop, happened to see the struck down man.

There are times when we get so focused on our lives, our own worlds that we don't see the fallen...the bruised...and beaten. We just tend to block them out and even become blind and numb to them.

There are those out there that the world has really knocked down and they need help. We need to be Jesus to them!

But instead we walk on by...

Random thing from the Bible # 2

"Don't fall asleep in Church!" {Acts 20:7-12}

7) On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.

8) There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting.

9) Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead.

10) Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!"

11) Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12) The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.

I heard this story a while back and for some strange reason it came to mind today.

Here where are, the book of Acts, telling of the initial church's growth and the spreading of the gospel. We hear about miracles done in the name of Lord and the work of the Holy Spirit.

And out of no where comes this passage about a man who died from falling asleep in church.

Paul was into this sermon. He just had to get this message off his chest and let others know about the love he had found in Christ. This might have resembled today what would be a good old all night southern revival. For the message was going long past the midnight hour, and as the verses talked about the lamps being lit...it was late in the night. Paul had the congregation hooked...they were hanging on His every word. And then it happened...around point #30 of Paul's 75 point sermon, a guy named Eutychus fell asleep.

Poor Eutychus...wouldn't you hate to be known as the guy who fell asleep during Paul's message. You will be forever known as that guy. And your story is included in the bible, forever to be read by millions everywhere. Though as we see with the other things in the bible, if it is in the bible it must have importance right?

Now the story doesn't just end there. He doesn't just fall asleep, he falls out a third story window and dies. Wouldn't that be something?...falling asleep and waking up in the presence of the Lord.

Though what amazes me from looking at scriptures, is that it doesn't really even phase Paul. I mean he just goes down to the dead man and lays down on him, and embraces him. He lets everyone know that there is still life in him and brings him back to life. Then he goes back and keeps on preaching his sermon.

Think if you were there and you saw someone fall to their death...that would change the whole mood of the sermon. And you may have already been questioning the power of God while you were listening to Paul preach. Then you get to see the Holy Spirit at work through Paul as he brings this man back to life. Think about that experience...seeing God's power first hand. No reason to question anymore.

There must have been many converts that night!

It was all for God's glory. For if I remember correctly the Holy Spirit had just came down upon these apostles. They were beginning to take God's word all over the earth. The apostles let the people know about Jesus, and the power that He has can bring a man from death to life (thanks to His death, burial, and resurrection). And now thanks to this illustration this congregation no longer had to imagine it, they got to see this power first hand.

There is power in the name of Jesus!

So next time you feel yourself nodding off in church, try to make sure you stay awake...or at least sit in a seat that is close to the ground.

my wife is pregnant and my cat is on prozac

I know...it sounds like the title of a book you would find on the shelves of a bookstore. Maybe in the self help section.

And this is where we are at in life.

Like I said in an earlier post, we found out that we are expecting again. I mean I did want more kids...I guess I just didn't see this one coming so soon. I admit that when the news first came that my stomach did drop to the floor. So it will be fun having 2 kids in diapers. I really just can't wait to see if it is a boy or girl. I actually kind of hope another girl b/c we already have the girl clothes, though I know in the end with the prom, college, and wedding...we'll make up for it. So it will be interesting to see what happens. Now if another baby comes close to this one, we might just have to get our own bedrooms.

Then there are our cats. We have one that is older cat that gets his way, and a smaller cat that runs all over the place. We have a problem with our older cat using the bathroom on the carpet in the house. It really only started when we had Shaela, maybe he got jealous or something. So the vet prescribed him some prozac. I didn't know that they gave cat's prozac (I hope that it is covered under our insurance). That is just too funny. Just to picture a cat suffering from panic disorder, so he starts taking Prozac to calm himself. I mean how stressed out can you be if all you do is sleep, eat, and lick your butt?

I am tempted to "accidentally" leaving the door open while bringing in the groceries or taking out the trash. "Laura, I'm sorry he must have gotten past me and went outside...and yep it looks like he is gone."

So it just keeps getting better. And that is where we are...

this moment

I have these days, where things just flood my mind. First I find myself worrying about the day. I find myself worrying even about tomorrow and days later down the road.
I worry about my job. Hoping that I perform well. I even go over thinking about my family. I think about my wife and my daughter...can I be the spiritual leader that they need ?
And on and on. The list just seems to grow. And the next thing I know is that I am drowning in the sea. That is when I found that the only thing I can do is say, "God I give this moment to you. Before anything else I give this moment to you."
I thank Him for all He has done. How He has provided for me and my family. How He has taken care of us. Nothing has come to me, that did not first go through Him. He is in control. And so I give this moment over to the one, who it really belongs to in the first place.
And I have found that I have to do this many times throughout the day. For so many times I want to take back those moments and focus on myself and the world. And start to focus on gas prices, the stock market, the housing market, and America in general.
But I have to give it back to Him. Place it in His hands, and believe that He will take care of me. Take that focus that I directed toward the world, and turn it toward God. Just worship Him! Crawl in His lap.
I read somewhere that if we take those things that we give our fear to, those things we focus our attention onto, and instead fear the Lord...then we would have a hard time worrying about those things anymore. For we would in turn be standing in awe of God, and we wouldn't have time to worry about anything else. For anything else compared to God would seem so trivial. (Don't know if that made sense or not.)
God I give this moment to you. May it be used to bring glory to your name and not my own! Help me to not to worry about tomorrow, for you say it has enough problems of its own. I am worth more than a small sparrow and more vaulable than the lillies to you. You are my provider, not my job.
The gas prices may rise and fall. Seasons change. House market may get better it may not. I could lose my job, but I'll be okay. For no matter what, "Lord, your love endures forever!"
Take this moment and use it to further your kingdom!
